Kargil, DD: Under the guidance of Professor Stanzin Yangdol, Principal of the college, Department of Sociology in collaboration with Debate and Seminar Committee, Government Degree College Khaltse observed International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, with a series of impactful events aimed at promoting gender equality and empowering women. The celebration began with a road rally to raise awareness about gender equality. This was followed by a street play titled “SPOSPA” (Encouragement), performed at the Khaltse main market by the students of the college. The play focused on the importance of inclusivity and providing women with opportunities to participate in decision-making processes, while also urging women to break the gender stereotypes prevalent in every society at large. The play called for an ‘accelerating action’ on the part of community against gender discrimination, biases and prejudices. The crowd applauded the students for their brilliant performance and the Nambardar Khaltse also thanked the college for its role in creating awareness about gender discrimination at community level. Earlier, Dr Tsering Norphel, Assistant Professor of Sociology, highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day and the need for continued efforts to achieve gender equality.
