Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD)Twelve tourists were rescued on Monday evening after multiple boats capsized in Dal Lake during a sudden windstorm and heavy rainfall that swept across parts of Srinagar.

The incident occurred near the Nehru Park area of the lake, where strong winds and intense showers caught several tourist boats off guard, causing them to overturn.

Rescue teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), including the Quick Reaction Team (QRT) Nehru Park, responded immediately and managed to rescue all 12 tourists safely. No injuries were reported.

Authorities have urged boat operators to remain vigilant and avoid ferrying passengers during unstable weather conditions.

Monday’s mishap coincided with a broader spell of rain and hailstorm that disrupted life in many parts of the Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar.(DD)
