Kargil, DD, The National Power Training Institute (NPTI), Nangal, Punjab, under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, conducted a two-day capacity building programme on grid-connected rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY). The training was held at the Conference Hall in Kargil and targeted officials from the Power Development Department (PDD), Kargil.
Dr. M. Ravichandra Babu, Director of NPTI, welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of the PMSGMBY scheme, especially its provisions for special subsidies tailored for the Union Territory of Ladakh.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Sh. Rakesh Kumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kargil. In his address, he spoke about the benefits of rooftop solar systems, outlined the current power scenario in the region, and discussed future opportunities for renewable energy deployment in Kargil.
Sh. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Deputy Director, NPTI, delivered the vote of thanks, while the programme was compered by Sh. Balwinder Kumar, a training expert from NPTI.
The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana aims to provide free electricity to households through subsidized rooftop solar panel installations. The scheme not only helps reduce electricity bills but also supports the government in lowering power subsidies, promotes the use of renewable energy, and contributes to reducing carbon emissions.
