Says no leniency for habitual drug offenders

Srinagar, (DD): Inspector General of Police Kashmir, V K Birdi today announced that comprehensive security arrangements have been made for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, with the integration of modern technology to ensure the highest level of preparedness.
He encouraged the public to participate in large numbers, emphasising that the event belongs to them and symbolizes unity.
At the full dress rehearsal for the Republic Day celebrations in Srinagar, the IGP stated, “All security measures, including advanced surveillance systems, drones, and other cutting-edge technologies, have been put in place to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the event. We urge people to come out and witness this important occasion as Republic Day is a celebration of the people.”
Addressing the growing drug menace, the IGP reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy. “The fight against drug trafficking will be pursued relentlessly. Habitual offenders are under constant surveillance, and no one involved in the drug trade will be spared,” he emphasized, responding to concerns about large-scale drug networks.
In response to questions about monitoring surrendered militants and individuals with questionable activities, the IGP added, “We follow a rigorous Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to track such elements, maintaining close vigilance to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.”
By combining cutting-edge technology with traditional security methods, the authorities aim to provide a safe and seamless Republic Day celebration, while continuing their efforts to combat drug trafficking and maintain law and order in the Valley(DD)
