TRAFFIC UPDATE: JAMMU AND KASHMIR HIGHWAYS STATUS AND ADVISORY

Diplomat Desk

Jammu :DD,The slow-moving traffic has been reported on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, NH-44, from February 2nd to 3rd, 2025. The four-lane construction work is going on at multiple places including Dalwas, Mehad, and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather. Traffic authorities have issued detailed advisories for the travelers crossing the region by different routes.

Considering the possibility of shooting stones on Ramban-Banihal road, all passenger vehicles and Light Motor Vehicles are advised to travel only during daylight hours. Transporters carrying perishable goods and livestock are also advised to follow the guidelines issued by Traffic Police Headquarters for loading, taking into account the single-lane traffic and bad road conditions at various places along the highway.

For February 4th, 2025, authorities have announced that both LMVs and Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will be permitted to travel in both directions on NH-44, subject to favorable weather conditions. Security Forces convoys will also be allowed bi-directional movement under similar conditions.

Many of the highways are yet to be open. NH 244 Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag remains closed due to winter advisory of the Sub-divisional magistrate Kokernag. The district Magistrate of Poonch ordered closure on Mughal road as its blockage happened because of piled snow. And, Bhaderwah Chamba road was closed too.

On the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG) road, restricted to one-way from Kargil to Srinagar for LMVs as well as HMVs upto 6 tyres shall be allowed from 10.00 AM to 3 PM at Minamarg only, if and if vehicles are having anti-skid chains and weather conditions are permitting.

There are multiple control units in every corner of the region, where real-time information is provided, and there are dedicated helpline numbers for passengers to cross-check road status before embarking on their journey. Motorists are advised to check the J&K Traffic Police’s Twitter handle and Facebook page for current updates on NH-44 status.DD
