BJP Takes Early Lead in Delhi Assembly Elections, Ahead in 40 Seats

New Delhi :DD- In a huge political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as an early favourite in the Delhi assembly elections, taking the lead in 40 seats while vote counting began Saturday morning. According to the latest trends coming out of the Election Commission of India, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) trails behind with leads in 30 seats of the 70-member assembly.

The vote counting process, which began at 8 AM across all assembly constituencies, is likely to deliver the final results by the end of the day. For the BJP, this election holds significance because it is attempting to return to power in the national capital after an exit of 27 years. It aims to send AAP pack and redeem its lost ground.

Meanwhile, hoping to stage a comeback is the Congress party, which had ruled Delhi consecutively for three terms with Sheila Dikshit as chief minister until 2013. The party’s electoral performance in Delhi has been particularly dismal, especially since it did not manage to win a single seat in the two assembly elections that took place in 2015 and 2020. This is, therefore, its opportunity to reassert itself in the political graph of the capital.DD
