Srinagar Police Attaches Property Worth Rs 18 lakh of notorious Drug peddler under NDPS Act

Diplomat Desk

Srinagar, (DD): In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Srinagar Police has attached a residential property worth Rs 18 lakh belonging to a notorious drug peddler under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The accused, Javid Ahmad Wani, son of Ali Mohammad, a resident of Gasoo, Tehsil Hazratbal, has been implicated in multiple drug-related cases and was known for selling narcotics, particularly targeting the youth in the area.

The police confirmed that the property was acquired through proceeds from the illegal drug trade and was attached under Section 68F of the NDPS Act, following approval from the competent authority under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act (SAFEMA), New Delhi. This action ensures that the property cannot be transferred, sold, or dealt with without official permission.

The accused is facing legal proceedings in connection with Case FIR No. 136/2022 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Nigeen and Case FIR No. 27/2024 under Sections 8/20, 21 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Zakoora. Authorities have labeled him a chronic drug peddler who posed a serious threat to public safety.

This move is part of Jammu and Kashmir Police’s broader strategy to cripple drug networks by targeting their financial assets and curb the rising drug menace in the region. Urging public support in the fight against drugs, police have encouraged citizens to report drug-related activities by contacting the official helpline at 9596770550.(DD)
