Jammu: DD, A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), led by Sunil Verma, District President JKNC Udhampur, met with Satish Sharma, Minister for Sports, Food, and Transport, at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu today. The delegation presented pressing concerns affecting the region and sought immediate redressal.

The delegation included Jawed Iqbal, District Vice President; Mehboob Khan Qazi, Senior Leader JKNC Udhampur; Akash Verma, District President Youth National Conference; Om Parkash Bhagat, Block President Udhampur; Mohan Lal Sharma, Block President Jaganoo; and Sadiq Mohd, District Secretary YNC Udhampur.

Sunil Verma expressed deep concern over the alarming rise in drug abuse across Jammu and Kashmir and urged the minister to take decisive steps to combat this growing menace. He emphasized the need for stringent enforcement measures and rehabilitation programs to safeguard the youth from the devastating impact of drugs.

The senior NC leader demanded establishment of a Sports Stadium in Latti, a region that has long been deprived of proper sports infrastructure. He highlighted that providing such a facility would encourage youth participation in sports and help divert their attention from drugs and other anti-social activities.

The delegation also stressed the urgent requirement for new ration depots to ensure food security for the people, particularly in remote and underserved areas. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the need for rationalization of transport unions to ensure they function in a more disciplined and structured manner.

Sunil Verma also urged the minister to formulate a comprehensive policy for transporters in light of the government’s initiative to introduce electric buses. He stressed the importance of safeguarding the interests of existing transport operators while ensuring a smooth transition to eco-friendly transportation.

The delegation further requested Minister Satish Sharma to personally visit the Latti area to assess the challenges faced by the local population.

The minister gave a patient hearing to the concerns raised and assured the delegation of appropriate action to address their demands at the earliest.DD
