Cross-Border shelling has wreaked havoc in J&K, must end: Deputy CM

Baramulla, (DD) Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary today voiced deep concern over the long-standing impact of cross-border firing in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasising that it has brought immense suffering to civilians for decades.

Addressing reporters during his visit to Baramulla, Choudhary called the situation tragic and recurring, urging for a permanent resolution.

“For decades, people in border areas have lived under constant fear and uncertainty. Every time shelling begins, lives are lost, homes are destroyed, and families are displaced. This cycle must end,” he said.

On the issue of illegal mining in water bodies, Choudhary asserted that the government had adopted a zero-tolerance policy and was taking concrete measures to curb the practice.

“We will not allow illegal sand mining or any other unlawful activity in our rivers and lakes. A dedicated committee has been formed to monitor violations, and strict action will be taken against offenders,” he stated.

With both cross-border tensions and environmental concerns affecting the region, Choudhary reassured the people that the government is committed to protecting lives, livelihoods, and natural resources in Jammu and Kashmir.(DD)
