Sweden and Poland deepen strategic partnership

Focus on civil defence and civil protection, the protection of critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea Region and continued support to Ukraine’

Stockholm: DD, Minister for Civil Defence Carl-Oskar Bohlin received Poland’s Minister of the Interior and Administration Tomasz Siemoniak for bilateral talks.
The two ministers signed a Letter of Intent to work further on the strategic partnership agreement between Sweden and Poland.

The purpose of the visit was to deepen and develop strategic cooperation between Sweden and Poland, focusing on civil defence and civil protection, the protection of critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea Region and continued support to Ukraine. Poland’s Presidency of the European Union Council in the first half of 2025 was also discussed.
“Poland is a major regional actor and an important strategic ally of Sweden. By strengthening our cooperation, we are bringing our countries closer together and enhancing deterrence and defence in the region. I look forward to maintaining close contact with my Polish ministerial colleague and further developing the already close and trusting cooperation between our countries,” says Mr Bohlin.
Representatives from the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency took part in the meeting, outlining their work on the ‘In case of crisis or war’ pamphlet and the Agency’s work on skills supply for the rescue services during a heightened state of alert. The two ministers also paid a study visit to one of Stockholm’s civil population protection shelters.

“It is always gratifying to see the great interest that the Swedish national total defence service generates among our partners, and I am very keen that we share our knowledge and experience and learn from the experience of other countries,” Mr Bohlin continued.
