J&K Police registers first e-FIR via E-mail, marks a digital milestone

Awantipora,(DD): In a significant step toward digital policing, Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered their first-ever electronic First Information Report (e-FIR) through an email complaint at Police Station Khrew.

According to officials, Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat, a resident of New Colony Khrew, lodged the complaint via email against Adil Ahmad Bhat and Bilal Ahmad Bhat, also from New Colony Khrew. The complainant alleged that the accused assaulted his family, resulting in injuries. To support his claim, he provided an OPD ticket from PHC Khrew and a copy of his Aadhaar card as evidence.

After reviewing the complaint, the police registered an e-FIR under Case No. 17/2025 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

This move marks a new era in law enforcement, making complaint registration more accessible and efficient. The initiative is expected to streamline policing by allowing citizens to report crimes without visiting police stations physically, enhancing transparency and accountability.(DD)
