Kishtwar, (DD): A powerful avalanche hit Beighpora Panchayat in Chatroo tehsil, Kishtwar district, causing reported damage to multiple kaccha houses, a footbridge, walnut trees, and link roads.
While officials have not confirmed the full extent of the destruction, locals claim significant losses.
In a video message, Choudhary Mohammed Saleem, a resident of Singhpora, Chatroo, urged authorities to assess the damage and provide compensation to affected families. He reported that a water mill, several houses, and a crucial footbridge connecting Kadhna and Beighpora were damaged.
The avalanche has also disrupted road connectivity, and the affected area remains without electricity. Fortunately, no human casualties have been reported.
Speaking to Diplomat Digital, SDM Chatroo, Nayeem Mughal, confirmed the avalanche but stated that the official teams will go there to access the losses, if any.
In a separate incident, another avalanche struck Dacchan, but no damage to life or property has been reported. Further details are awaited.(DD)
