Over 32,000 Government vacancies in J&K, only 3,727 referred for recruitment since Oct last year

Jammu,(DD): The Jammu and Kashmir government today disclosed that 32,474 posts remain vacant across various departments, with only 3,727 positions referred for recruitment since the elected government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, took office on October 16, 2024.

In response to a query from MLA Handwara, Sajad Gani Lone in the Assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds charge of the General Administration Department, informed the Legislative Assembly that as of January 31, 2025, there are 2,503 gazetted vacancies, 19,214 non-gazetted vacancies, and 10,757 multi-tasking staff vacancies in different government departments.

Of the 3,727 vacancies referred to the Jammu & Kashmir Service Selection Board (SSB) and Public Service Commission (PSC), 738 are gazetted posts, 1,754 are non-gazetted posts, and 1,235 are multi-tasking staff positions.

The government also revealed that Rs 14.17 crore has been collected as examination fees from job aspirants appearing in recruitment tests conducted by SSB and PSC.

On whether the government plans to waive the job application fee, the response was categorical: “Presently, no such proposal is under consideration.”(DD)
