LoP Sunil Sharma demands action over “Pro-Pakistan” remarks in J&K Assembly

Diplomat Correspondent

Jammu, (DD)Jammu and Kashmir Leader of Opposition (LoP) and BJP leader Sunil Sharma have raised concerns over remarks made in the J&K Legislative Assembly regarding Pakistan. In a letter to Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on March 6, Sharma urged action against statements advocating dialogue with Pakistan, comparing development in Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (POJK) with the Union Territory, and allegedly “glorifying” Pakistan.

Sharma asserted that such remarks challenge the sovereignty, integrity, and security of the nation and urged the Speaker to expunge any content that undermines national interests. He also accused the Assembly of selectively removing “patriotic” statements while allowing narratives favoring Pakistan to remain.

The controversy follows a heated debate where J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah criticized the BJP for failing to reclaim POJK, referencing External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s remarks about retrieving the “stolen part” of Kashmir. Omar also questioned why the BJP doesn’t address China’s illegal occupation of Ladakh while emphasizing POJK.

With political tensions rising in the Assembly, Sharma’s demand signals growing friction over discussions on Kashmir’s territorial issues and India’s foreign policy stance.(DD)
