Kishtwar,DD, The District Magistrate of Kishtwar, Rajesh Kumar Shavan (JKAS), has issued an order under Section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), banning the illegal transportation of bovine animals such as cows, oxen, buffaloes, and bulls from Kishtwar to other districts.
The order, which takes immediate effect for two months, has been enforced due to rising concerns over the illegal cattle trade, which has caused public resentment and potential communal tensions. It has been observed that the Thatri-Kishtwar-Chatroo-Synthan route is being misused for such activities, with middlemen disguising cattle transport as agricultural purposes.
However, the order does not apply to government agencies transporting cattle for departmental purposes or locals shifting animals within their villages for grazing or ploughing.
The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar and other concerned authorities have been directed to take necessary action to enforce this ban. The administration has also instructed Tehsildars and village-level officers (Lumberdars & Chowkidars) to ensure strict implementation and awareness in rural areas.
This move is aimed at maintaining public order and preventing communal tensions, ensuring legal cattle trade practices within the district.DD
