Gulmarg, (DD): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday emphasized the significance of the Khelo India Winter Games in promoting Gulmarg as a premier tourist destination and enhancing its skiing infrastructure to world-class standards.

Speaking to reporters in Gulmarg, CM Omar expressed satisfaction over the successful conduct of the 5th edition of Khelo India Winter Games and highlighted the government’s commitment to developing better ski slopes to boost tourism and create employment opportunities.

“After the recent snowfall, a survey was conducted, and accordingly, the event was organized. I want well-developed ski slopes here to ensure long-term economic benefits for the locals,” he said.

The second phase of the 5th Khelo India Winter Games commenced in Gulmarg on March 9, 2025, featuring national and international athletes competing across various winter sports. The event is being held under tight security arrangements to ensure a smooth and successful competition.

With the growing popularity of winter sports in Kashmir, the administration is focusing on improving infrastructure, including ski lifts, accommodation facilities, and avalanche safety measures, to position Gulmarg as a world-class skiing hub.(DD)
