Army Trains Village Defence Guards in Mendhar, Poonch to Strengthen Security

Poonch, March 12(DD): In a proactive security measure, the Indian Army has initiated training sessions for Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in Mendhar, Poonch, to enhance their combat skills and preparedness against security threats.

The training program includes weapon handling, tactical operations, intelligence gathering, and emergency response drills to equip VDG members with the necessary skills to safeguard their villages. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to empower border communities and strengthen their role in assisting security forces in countering infiltration and terrorist activities.

With Mendhar’s proximity to the Line of Control (LoC), the region has witnessed periodic ceasefire violations, infiltration attempts, and militant activities. Officials emphasize that well-trained VDGs can serve as an effective first line of defense, working in close coordination with the Indian Army and local law enforcement agencies.

Local residents have welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a vital step toward enhancing security and community resilience. A VDG member participating in the training, expressed his confidence in the program, saying, “We live in a sensitive area, and this training gives us the confidence to protect our families and villages. With proper weapons and skills, we can stand with the Army to defend our homeland.”

Security officials have reiterated their commitment to strengthening civilian defense mechanisms and ensuring that border areas remain well-equipped to handle emerging challenges. The training program is expected to continue, covering more VDG units across the region.(DD)
