JAMMU,DD, National Conference Additional General Secretary andformer Minister Mr. Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today welcomed the constitution of a House Committee by the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly
Mr Abdul Rahim Rather to examine the alleged mismanagement of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the Union Territory.
Addressing one day convention of Block JIB Thathi at Chak in Udhampur district this afternoon which was organized by Sunil Verma District President Udhampur, Amarnath (Retd Principal) District President SC Cell and Qasim Mohd Teli, Mr
Sadhotra termed the decision as a step in the right direction, hoping that the committee will thoroughly investigate the irregularities and hold the wrongdoers accountable. He emphasized that the mission, aimed at providing clean and safe
drinking water, must be implemented efficiently and transparently to truly benefit the poor needy people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The previous dispensation made a mockery of Har Ghar Nal-Jal as the Mission became breeding ground for unethical and corrupt practices”, he added.
Highlighting the critical importance of drinking water supply, Mr. Sadhotra said that ensuring regular and uninterrupted tap water supply remains a major challenge for the government, especially with the onset of summer. He urged
authorities to formulate an advance strategy to cope with the increasing demand and prevent any water shortages. He stressed that the ensuing summer months will require a special plan for the Jammu region, given the scorching heat that
severely impacts water availability.
Mr. Sadhotra said mismanagement over the last decade has resulted in serious water crises in various areas. He pointed out that several regions, including JIB, require focused attention to ensure a steady and reliable drinking water supply.
The senior National Conference leader also hoped that the House Committee would identify lapses, particularly in cases where pipes were laid in various areas without ensuring a proper water source. Such mismanagement, he said, must be
addressed to prevent wastage of resources and to ensure the successful implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission.Reiterating the National Conference’s commitment to the welfare of the people, Mr. Sadhotra assured that the party will continue to press for adequate and
regulated supply of both drinking water and electricity across Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the government to take corrective measures and adopt further improvements to make the Jal Jeevan Mission more effective and responsive to
the needs of the people.
The locals also brought to the notice of the National Conference Additional General Secretary several pressing issues of the area and Mr Sadhotra assured that these will be taken up at appropriate forums for earnest redressal.
