Omar Abdullah in Assembly: “Militancy Cannot Be Eliminated Without Public Support”

Calls Waqf Institutions Target of Selective Action

Diplomat Correspondent

Jammu, (DD): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday told the Assembly that eliminating militancy in Jammu and Kashmir is impossible without the active involvement of the people.

Speaking during the session, Omar stated that while law and order do not solely fall under the elected government’s domain, they are playing a supportive role in ensuring peace and stability in the region.

“I have repeatedly said that without the involvement of people, militancy cannot be uprooted,” he asserted.

On the ongoing security operation in Kathua, Omar informed the House that, as per his information, security forces have not yet made direct contact with militants. However, a search and cordon operation was launched following reports of suspicious movement in the area.

Commenting on the Waqf Bill introduced by the Union Government, he accused the authorities of selectively targeting Waqf institutions.

“It is evident that only one religion is being singled out. Religious institutions exist in every faith, and charitable activities are carried out by all communities. Muslims contribute through Waqf, yet it is being selectively targeted,” he said.(DD)
