Discussion on Education Policy Held Under the Chairmanship of Hon’ble Deputy Chairman, LAHDC, Leh

Leh,DD: Hon’ble Deputy Chairman, LAHDC, Leh, Tsering Angchuk convened a meeting in the presence of Hon’ble Executive Councillor Stanzin Chosphel to discuss the education policy and the implementation of foundational literacy and competency-based learning in the conference hall of LAHDC Leh.

The meeting was attended by Hon’ble Councillor Lower Leh, Hon’ble Councillor Basgo, Chief Education Officer, Leh, Dy. Secretary Culture, Principal DIET, Headmaster, Government High School, Nimo, and members of the Village Education Committee, Government High School, Nimo.

During the meeting, officials apprised the Deputy Chairman of various aspects of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focusing on foundational literacy, concept-based learning, and the importance of making education more engaging through hands-on and joyful learning methods. A presentation was made by Dy. Secretary Culture, highlighting the idea of “The Village Teaches, The Village Learns,” which envisions redefining the village as a center of education through community involvement and traditional wisdom.

The discussion also touched upon the importance of competency-based learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Hon’ble Deputy Chairman emphasized that education is a powerful tool for transformation and stressed the need for reforms, workshops, and a structured roadmap to improve the system. He further highlighted the significance of making education locally relevant while integrating traditional knowledge with modern learning methods. He announced that a pilot project would be implemented soon.

The Chief Education Officer appreciated the initiative and noted that significant efforts have already been made in education. He emphasized the role of School Management Committees (SMCs) and the importance of strengthening both academic and infrastructural aspects of schools.

It was agreed that a systematic approach would be taken to implement the discussed initiatives while ensuring that the existing education framework remains undisturbed. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to transforming education, ultimately empowering students and communities.DD
