NC-Led Alliance Passes Resolutions Against Waqf Bill, LG’s Decisions

Says Coordination with Centre Should Not Be Seen as Weakness

Srinagar,(DD): In a significant political development, the Jammu and Kashmir alliance led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has passed two key resolutions opposing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and recent administrative decisions by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

The resolutions were adopted following an emergency meeting of the alliance partners at the official residence of Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary in Fairview Gupkar. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired the late-night session amid growing concerns over what the alliance describes as unilateral actions by the LG’s administration.

Addressing the media after the meeting, NC leader and MLA Tanvir Sadiq strongly condemned the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, calling it “anti-minority and anti-Muslim.” He warned that the bill could have far-reaching implications on Waqf properties and the larger Muslim community in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sadiq further stated that the alliance was committed to upholding the mandate of the people and would not tolerate any attempts to undermine their authority. He cautioned that their coordination with the Centre and the LG should not be mistaken for weakness, emphasizing that the alliance was making a “final appeal” against what they perceive as unilateral administrative decisions, including recent bureaucratic transfers ordered by the LG’s office.

The resolutions come at a time of escalating tensions between the elected government and the LG administration, with the alliance signaling a stronger stance against policies they believe bypass their authority. Sources suggest that further political action may be taken in the coming days if their concerns are not addressed.

As the standoff intensifies, all eyes will be on how the Centre responds to the alliance’s objections and whether a political showdown is on the horizon.(DD)
