Amit Shah’s High-Stakes Visit to J&K from April 6: Security, Politics, Amarnath Yatra Prep in Focus

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD): Union Home Minister Amit Shah will embark on a crucial three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir from April 6 to April 8, during which he will hold key security meetings, review BJP’s political strategy, and oversee preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.

Shah will begin his visit in Jammu, where he will meet BJP MLAs and senior party leaders to discuss the party’s role in the ongoing budget session and broader political developments in the region. Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh will also be part of the deliberations.

A major highlight of his trip will be a high-level security review meeting with J&K LG Manoj Sinha, top Army, paramilitary, and intelligence officials. The discussion will assess the security situation, including infiltration threats and counter-terrorism operations, especially in Jammu’s Kathua and Udhampur districts.

Shah is also expected to visit the International Border and meet families of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. His visit is being closely watched for potential policy announcements impacting J&K’s security and governance.

A separate meeting will focus on security and logistical arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra, scheduled from July 3 to August 9.

On April 7, the Home Minister is likely to travel to Srinagar, where he may virtually inaugurate several development projects. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is also expected to be present, and a possible meeting between the two leaders could take place. However, his Srinagar visit remains subject to final confirmation.

Shah will conclude his visit on April 8, flying back to New Delhi after a series of discussions that could shape the future political and security landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.(DD)
