Srinagar, DD: Panic spread through several areas of downtown Srinagar on Sunday after a suspected rabid dog went on a biting spree, injuring at least a dozen people in Sekidafar, Nawakadal, Eidgah, and nearby localities.

Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos as the dog attacked pedestrians in Sekidafar, Rashanhar, and Nopora, leaving six people injured and sparking fear among residents.

“People were running in all directions to save themselves. The dog just wouldn’t stop,” said a local resident.

In the aftermath, a rush of dog bite victims was witnessed at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital, where officials confirmed receiving six victims from Sekidafar alone. “All were administered the Anti-Rabies Vaccine (ARV) and are currently under observation,” a hospital official stated.

Hospital authorities further revealed that over 40 dog bite cases were recorded from across the Valley on the same day, prompting renewed calls for intensified sterilization drives.

Locals have urged authorities to capture the stray dog involved and implement effective measures to control the stray population to prevent future incidents(DD)
