Udhampur :-DD, The Fire & Emergency Services in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, commemorated the start of Fire Service Week with somber tributes to the valiant firefighters who had laid down their lives while safeguarding citizens and property during rescue and firefighting missions.

The one-week commemoration started on a grand scale with a central remembrance parade at the Fire & Emergency Services Complex in Udhampur, where the Fire and Emergency Department (Udhampur-Reasi Command) Assistant Director Sarvesh Langer took his place as chief guest. In respect, a two-minute silence was maintained in memory of the martyrs, and wreaths were laid at the Martyrs Memorial by Langer, senior officers, and departmental personnel.
Fire Service Week, which is celebrated every year from April 14 to 20, is of great importance as it not only remembers the bravery of the firefighters but also seeks to create public awareness regarding fire safety and prevention. The week has its roots in the disastrous Bombay Dock Explosion of 1944, when many firefighters died, and is a reminder of their unflinching commitment to saving lives. Through various awareness programs, the department aims to strengthen fire prevention measures and ensure safety among citizens.DD
