Srinagar, (DD):A fresh spell of wet weather is expected to sweep across Jammu and Kashmir beginning Thursday, bringing widespread rainfall to the Valley and fairly widespread showers to the Jammu region, according to the Meteorological Department.
While dry conditions will prevail over most areas on Tuesday, light and scattered rain or thundershowers are likely to begin from Wednesday in isolated pockets. The weather activity is set to intensify between April 18 and 19, with the Kashmir Valley likely to witness widespread precipitation during this period.
Meanwhile, minimum temperatures across the Union Territory remained unusually high during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Pahalgam recorded the lowest temperature in the Kashmir division at 5.0°C, while Banihal was the coolest in the Jammu region at 11.3°C.
The MeT Department noted that night temperatures were 2°C to 5°C above the seasonal average in most places. Day temperatures also remained significantly elevated, ranging 6°C to 8°C above normal in parts of Kashmir, and 3°C to 4°C higher in areas of Jammu.
The upcoming rains are expected to bring much-needed relief from the ongoing warm spell.(DD)
