Registrations Open for Upcoming Amarnath Yatra as Rain Predicted Across J&K

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD)Registration for the annual Amarnath Yatra has officially begun, drawing attention from devotees across the country, even as Jammu and Kashmir braces for a spell of wet weather later this week.

According to the Meteorological Department, most areas of the Union Territory will remain dry on Tuesday. However, light and scattered rain or thundershowers are expected from Wednesday, intensifying into widespread rainfall over the Valley between April 18 and 19. The Jammu region is likely to experience fairly widespread showers during the same period.

Meanwhile, temperatures across J&K remained above normal Monday night. Pahalgam recorded the lowest temperature in Kashmir at 5.0°C, while Banihal was the coolest in Jammu at 11.3°C. Minimum temperatures were 2°C to 5°C above seasonal averages, with day temperatures in some areas soaring 6°C to 8°C above normal.

Officials are hopeful that the upcoming rain will ease the ongoing warm spell, while preparations for the Yatra continue in full swing (DD)
