Omar Abdullah Criticizes Opposition on Waqf Bill, Reaffirms Push for Statehood

Outcome Could Have Been Different with a Proper Resolution,” Says J&K CM

Srinagar, (DD): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday termed the adjournment motion brought by opposition members in the Legislative Assembly over the Waqf Amendment Bill as a misplaced and counterproductive move.

Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said the Speaker had already clarified the matter on the concluding day of the session. “The motion was inappropriate as it was aimed at challenging the local government’s decision in a manner not suited to legislative procedures. Had the resolution been presented differently, the outcome could have been different,” Omar said.

He also confirmed that the matter has now been taken to the Supreme Court for further adjudication, adding, “Let’s wait for the court’s response.”

On the issue of restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, Omar said that with six months having passed since the elections, the time is ripe for restoration. “During Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent visit to J&K, I met him separately. I remain hopeful that statehood will be restored soon,” he added(DD)
