Kishtwar, (DD)In response to recurring landslides disrupting life in the Padder-Nagseni region of Kishtwar district, local MLA Sunil Sharma has called for immediate intervention and a long-term solution to safeguard residents and ensure smooth progress of ongoing development work.
Speaking to the media, Sharma said the area has long been vulnerable to landslides, and recent events have once again highlighted the urgent need for sustainable measures. “Over a dozen families have been shifted to safer locations, and we are making necessary arrangements for their accommodation and support,” he stated.
While acknowledging the administration’s efforts to manage the situation temporarily, Sharma emphasized that patchwork solutions are no longer viable. “We’ve handled this for now, but this issue demands a permanent fix. I’ve urged the Deputy Commissioner to visit the affected sites, and all concerned officials have been asked to assess the area and work on a concrete plan,” he said.
The MLA also pointed out the need to maintain transport access in the region, which is crucial for the completion of key infrastructure projects this year. “Transport must not be disrupted. We have vital work to complete this year, and ensuring road connectivity is essential,” Sharma noted.
Authorities are expected to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the affected region in the coming days. Locals hope the government will prioritize mitigation efforts to prevent future disasters and secure the region’s development.(DD)
