Srinagar, (DD): Union Home Minister Amit Shah today visited the site of the recent attack in Pahalgam, where several civilians were killed and injured. The visit comes amid heightened security and growing public concern across the region.

Accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Jammu and Kashmir administration, and top security agencies, Shah assessed the ground situation and was briefed on the investigation and security response.

Shah condemned the incident as an “inhuman and cowardly act” and assured that those responsible would be brought to justice.

“The nation stands united in grief. We will not let such acts of violence go unpunished. A coordinated effort is underway to track down every individual involved,” Shah said.

He also met with the families of the victims and some of the injured at a nearby hospital, offering condolences and promising full support for their treatment and rehabilitation.

Shah further announced that security arrangements in tourist hotspots like Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and Sonamarg will be reviewed and strengthened immediately.

“Tourism is the pride of Kashmir and the heartbeat of its economy. We will ensure that no force is allowed to sabotage peace and prosperity,” he added.

The visit comes a day after the Jammu and Kashmir government announced Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia for the families of those killed in the attack, along with financial assistance for the injured. Following the incident, several tourist groups have cut short their visits and returned to their home states.(DD)
