Jammu, (DD) National Conference (NC) President Dr. Farooq Abdullah today delivered a strong and resolute message, calling for a firm response to recent challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that India would ensure “Pahalgam will never be repeated.”
In a brief but pointed interaction with reporters, Dr. Abdullah reminded the nation of the historic decision made by Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 to join India, emphasizing the rejection of the two-nation theory. He said, “We rejected the two-nation theory way back in 1947 by joining India. Those thinking they can go with Pakistan are living in a fool’s paradise.”
His remarks came amidst growing tensions in the region, particularly following a series of violent incidents. Dr. Abdullah’s frustration was evident as he shifted from his previous calls for dialogue, now questioning the efficacy of further negotiations. “I always used to say dialogue, but not now. What answer will we give to the families of those killed?” he asked, his voice reflecting both sorrow and resolve.
The statement marks a significant change in the political discourse of Jammu and Kashmir, where dialogue had often been seen as the path toward peace. Dr. Abdullah’s shift indicates a growing sense of urgency among local leaders in the face of ongoing violence and loss of life. His call for a strong response highlights the need for accountability and justice, particularly for the families affected by the recent tragedies.
This statement also underscores Dr. Abdullah’s commitment to Jammu and Kashmir’s integration with India, particularly as discussions on the region’s future continue to unfold. His firm words stand as a reminder of the long-standing ties between the state and the Indian Union, even as the region grapples with its complex and often tumultuous history.
As the situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains tense, Dr. Abdullah’s remarks are sure to spark further debate, but they also serve as a call to action for both the people of the region and the Indian government to find a way forward—one that ensures peace and justice for all.(DD)
