Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD) Unusually high temperatures continued to grip Jammu and Kashmir today, with Kokernag in south Kashmir recording its hottest April day ever at 29.1°C. This surpassed the previous record of 28.3°C set on April 30, 2007.

Srinagar also experienced intense heat, recording 30.9°C for the second consecutive day—its second-highest April temperature in recorded history. The highest remains 31.3°C, observed on April 20, 1946.

Amid the ongoing heatwave, Director of the Meteorological Department Dr Mukhtar Ahmad advised people to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours and remain well-hydrated.

The weather office has predicted light rain, thunder, and gusty winds at isolated to scattered places between May 1 and May 5. Dry conditions are expected from May 6 to 7, with another spell of light rain likely on May 9 and 10 (DD)
