Srinagar, (DD)A heartwarming scene unfolded at the Hajj House in Srinagar on Sunday as 75-year-old Abdul Rehman’s decades-long dream of performing Hajj finally came true—thanks to a viral video and the kindness of strangers.

Abdul Rehman, a resident of Srinagar, has been coming to the Hajj House every year for the past 45 years—not as a pilgrim, but to bid farewell to departing Hajjis and request their prayers. This year, during the departure of the first batch of pilgrims, he was interviewed by reporters. In the video, he emotionally shared, “For 45 years, I’ve been coming here to see off pilgrims and ask them to pray for me. I have no one, I’m alone. Every year, I ask Allah to grant me this one wish.”

The video quickly went viral on social media, touching hearts across the Valley and beyond. One of those moved by his story was Dr. Jan Mushtaq Khan from Kupwara, who immediately reached out to the media team and offered to sponsor the pilgrimage.

“I couldn’t stop my tears when I saw him. My brother Ab Majeed Khan sent me the video and asked for details. After confirming the story through local mosque committees, I knew I had to help,” Dr. Khan said. “I will handle his documentation and make all necessary arrangements. He deserves to be at the Kaaba.”

Within hours, Abdul Rehman’s years of waiting turned into overwhelming joy. What started as a routine morning visit to send off pilgrims ended with the announcement that he would be performing Hajj himself.

Witnesses at the Hajj House described the moment as unforgettable. “It was divine. A prayer 45 years in the making was answered in just two hours,” said one bystander.

Fighting back tears, Abdul Rehman expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him. “Today, I am no longer alone. May Allah grant Hajj to every dreamer.” (DD)
