Poonch, (DD)Poonch Police have strongly refuted misleading reports circulating on various media channels and social media platforms regarding the death of Maulana Mohd Iqbal, a respected religious figure in the region. The 46-year-old, who hailed from Village Baila in Tehsil Mandi, was killed in a cross-border shelling incident by Pakistan at Madrasa Zia-ul-Uloom in Poonch city.

In a statement issued today, Poonch Police clarified that Maulana Iqbal had no links to any terror group, contrary to some of the false narratives being circulated. The police emphasised that such misreporting not only spreads unnecessary panic but also disrespects the dignity of the deceased and the grieving family.

Maulana Mohd Iqbal was known for his role as a religious scholar and had earned the respect of his local community. The police reiterated that the spreading of fake news related to sensitive incidents could lead to legal repercussions.

Authorities have urged all media outlets, journalists, and individuals to verify facts with official sources before publishing any information regarding security and public matters. Legal action will be pursued against anyone found guilty of disseminating such misinformation.

The Poonch Police’s statement comes as a reminder to the media and public to act responsibly when reporting on incidents that affect public order and the emotional well-being of those involved.(DD)
