Uri, (DD)Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, today visited Lagama village in the Uri sector to assess the aftermath of intense overnight shelling from across the border that left dozens of houses damaged and caused panic among residents.

Accompanied by senior civil and military officials, LG Sinha met with affected families, inspected damaged homes, and reviewed relief and rehabilitation measures being undertaken by the district administration.

Speaking to reporters at the site, LG Sinha said, “The safety and well-being of our citizens is our top priority. I stand with the people of Uri in this difficult hour. Necessary compensation, medical care, and immediate shelter assistance will be provided without delay.”

He also praised the prompt response of the local administration and security forces in evacuating vulnerable populations and ensuring timely aid. “We are working on both short-term relief and long-term strengthening of civil defense infrastructure in border areas,” he added.

Residents of Lagama, still reeling from the overnight bombardment, expressed their anguish over repeated disruptions to their lives. Many urged the government to expedite the construction of underground bunkers and enhance mobile medical units.

This visit comes in the backdrop of rising ceasefire violations and escalating tensions along the Line of Control (LoC). Similar damage was reported in Tangdhar and Karnah sectors, prompting widespread calls for peace and preventive safety measures in civilian areas.

The LG’s visit is seen as a message of solidarity and reassurance to border residents, many of whom live under the constant shadow of cross-border hostilities.(DD)
