Panic in Srinagar as Multiple Drones Spotted Over City Skies Soon After Ceasefire Announcement

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD) Panic gripped parts of Srinagar on Saturday evening after multiple drones were reportedly sighted hovering over various neighbourhoods, triggering alarm among residents and raising security concerns—especially as the sightings came soon after a formal ceasefire announcement along the Line of Control (LoC).

Eyewitnesses claimed to have seen at least three unidentified drones flying at low altitudes over residential zones. “I saw one right above our locality in Rajbagh. It hovered briefly before flying toward the hills,” said Imtiyaz Ahmad, a local shopkeeper.

Similar sightings were reported in Lal Chowk, Bemina, and Hyderpora. “People came out of their homes and started pointing towards the sky. Everyone was scared—it’s not something we see every day,” said Nusrat Jan, a resident of Bemina.

Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement, but sources say forces have been put on high alert and aerial surveillance has been intensified. Police and CRPF personnel were seen patrolling the affected areas shortly after the reports surfaced.

The incident has raised suspicions due to its timing—barely hours after the government reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan along the LoC, aimed at reducing tensions in the border areas.

Officials are investigating whether the drones were part of any cross-border surveillance effort or operated for civilian or unauthorised purposes. No injuries or damage have been reported so far.

Further updates are expected as the investigation continues(DD)
