Heatwave to Scorch J&K, Relief Likely with Monday Thundershowers

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar,(DD): Jammu and Kashmir is bracing for an intense heat spell over the next few days, with meteorologists warning of a sharp rise in temperatures across the region. Independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif has predicted that heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely, particularly in the plains of Jammu and parts of the Kashmir Valley.

“Temperatures in the Kashmir Valley are expected to breach 30°C, while several areas in Jammu may witness highs exceeding 41°C,” Arif said, noting that such extremes mark a shift toward severe heatwave territory.

The sweltering conditions are expected to persist until late Sunday, after which a brief respite may arrive. According to Arif, isolated thundershowers could develop by Sunday evening, with a more widespread spell of rain and thunderstorms forecast for Monday across many parts of the Union Territory.

While the rain may bring momentary relief, authorities have advised residents—especially in lowland and urban areas—to stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours.(DD)
