Indian Army Dismisses Ceasefire Expiry Rumours, Confirms No DGMO Talks Scheduled Today

Indian Army Dismisses Ceasefire Expiry Rumours

Diplomat Correspondent

New Delhi, May 18(DD): Amid swirling media reports suggesting an end to the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, the Indian Army has issued a firm clarification, denying any such development and reaffirming the continuation of the peace understanding reached on May 12.

In an official statement, the Army said, “No DGMO talks are scheduled today. As far as continuation of break in hostilities, as decided in DGMOs interaction of 12 May are concerned, there is no expiry date to it.”

The clarification comes in response to speculation by some media outlets that the ceasefire agreement might lapse or be under review. The ceasefire understanding, announced following a Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) level interaction between India and Pakistan on May 12, remains in force.

Military officials have stressed that the agreement does not have a stipulated end date and continues to be respected by both sides, barring occasional violations.

The reaffirmation of the ceasefire underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to maintaining peace along the Line of Control (LoC), provided there is reciprocal adherence by the Pakistani side.

The statement is seen as a move to dispel misinformation and ensure public confidence amid ongoing security dynamics in the region.(DD)
