Gusty Winds Lash Kashmir, Cause Widespread Damage to Trees, Roofs, and Mosque Minarets

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD) Late this evening, strong gusty winds swept across Kashmir, causing significant damage in various parts of the region. Initial reports indicate that numerous trees were uprooted, rooftops were blown away, and several minarets of mosques sustained damage.

Local resident Amina Bano said, “The wind came suddenly and with such force that we barely had time to secure our belongings. Some trees near our house fell on the road, blocking traffic.” Another resident, Farooq Ahmad, shared, “The minaret of the nearby mosque was badly damaged. It’s heartbreaking to see such damage to our community places.”

The full extent of the destruction is yet to be ascertained, as authorities continue to assess the situation. No immediate reports of casualties have emerged, but power outages and disruptions in daily life have been reported from affected areas.

A shopkeeper from Lal Chowk, Waseem Malik, said, “We suffered losses as rooftops we usere damaged. We hope the authorities help us recover soon.”

Local administration and disaster management teams are on alert, monitoring the situation and coordinating relief efforts to restore normalcy. Residents are advised to remain indoors and take necessary precautions until the weather stabilizes.
