Srinagar,(DD) National Conference (NC) President Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday chaired a crucial meeting of the party’s Working Committee at Nawa-i-Subh headquarters in Srinagar, where Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other senior leaders were present. The meeting comes at a time of mounting political activity in Jammu and Kashmir, with the party laying out its future strategy amid pressing regional concerns.
The committee deliberated on a broad range of issues, including the evolving political situation, organizational restructuring, strengthening grassroots outreach, and the party’s longstanding demand for the restoration of J&K’s statehood and special constitutional status under Article 370.
Sources within the party said the leadership stressed the importance of public engagement and policy clarity ahead of possible electoral exercises. “The party remains committed to protecting the rights and identity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” a senior NC leader said following the meeting.
At the start of the session, members observed a two-minute silence to pay tribute to the victims of the recent tragic incident in Pahalgam, where multiple lives were lost. Dr. Farooq Abdullah expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
The party is expected to hold further consultations in the coming weeks to finalize its political roadmap and strengthen coordination across its regional units.(DD)
