Amit Shah to Visit J&K on May 29–30, First Visit After Operation Sindoor

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD): Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir on May 29 and 30, marking his first visit to the region following the launch of Operation Sindoor — India’s high-precision retaliatory strike against terror camps across the Line of Control.

The visit comes in the wake of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, where 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and one local, lost their lives in one of the deadliest strikes on civilians in recent years. The gruesome nature of the attack triggered a nationwide outcry and led to a major military response from India, aimed at neutralizing terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.

During his two-day visit, Shah is expected to review the prevailing security situation, hold high-level meetings with officials from the Army, paramilitary forces, and local administration, and visit the families affected by recent cross-border shelling in the Poonch sector. Sources indicate that the Home Minister may also interact with community leaders and security personnel stationed along sensitive border regions.

Operation Sindoor, launched in early May, was a covert cross-border offensive designed to target Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed launchpads and hideouts. The operation followed detailed intelligence reports and was intended to send a clear message that India would not tolerate terror threats emanating from across the border. Though official details remain classified, it is believed that several key terror facilities were neutralized.

This visit by the Home Minister is being viewed as a crucial moment for policy articulation, confidence-building, and reassurance for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. It is also expected to focus on long-term counter-terror strategies, development measures, and preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra(DD)
