Srinagar,(DD)In a significant breakthrough, the State Investigation Agency (SIA), Kashmir has successfully apprehended Abdul Rashid Mir, a proclaimed offender from Amargarh, Sopore, who had been absconding for the past two years.
Mir is reportedly a crucial member of a cross-border narco-terrorism network operating in the Kashmir Valley. Investigations have revealed that narcotics and small arms were smuggled into the region from across the border by operatives of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). These illicit consignments were then distributed throughout the valley, targeting the youth and generating funds to support terrorist activities.
The arrest comes as part of ongoing investigations into FIR No. 19/2022, under which eight members of the narco-terror module have already been arrested by the SIA.
Authorities have described the arrest of Abdul Rashid Mir as a major blow to cross-border terror operatives, who have long relied on drug trafficking both to destabilise the region and to fund violent extremism.
This development underlines the continued commitment of SIA Kashmir to dismantling narco-terror networks and safeguarding the Union Territory from the dual threat of drug abuse and terrorism.(DD)
