Tragedy Strikes in Trana Khari: One Dead, Several Injured After Boulder Hits Ecco Van

Banihal, (DD): A tragic road accident occurred in the Trana area of Khari in Ramban district when a massive boulder fell onto an Ecco van (registration number JK19 A 6521), leaving one person dead and several others injured.

According to eyewitnesses and local authorities, the van was en route through the hilly stretch when a sudden landslide caused a large boulder to crash onto the vehicle. The impact killed the driver, identified as Mohd Iqbal Khanday, son of Ab Rashid Khanday, a resident of Mandakbass Khari. He died on the spot due to the severe impact.

Five others, including members of a family traveling in the van, sustained injuries in the accident. All the injured were immediately rushed to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal, where they were given first aid. They have since been referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for further treatment due to the severity of their injuries.

List of Injured:

  1. Bahar Ahmed Malik (28), son of Ab Rehman Malik, resident of Trana Khari – suffered a fractured arm.
  2. Mansoora Begum (22), wife of Bahar Ahmed – sustained multiple fractures and trauma.
  3. Mohd Saad (10 months), son of Bahar Ahmed – suffered a head injury.
  4. Sajid Bahar, son of Bahar Ahmed – condition yet to be detailed.
  5. Ab Rehman Lone, son of Ab Sattar Lone, resident of Trana Khari – extent of injuries not specified.

Local authorities and police have reached the site and are investigating the incident. The accident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of mountain roads in the region, especially during the monsoon and pre-monsoon seasons when landslides are frequent.

The tragic event has cast a pall of gloom over the Khari area, as locals mourn the loss of life and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.(DD)
