J&K Govt Issues Heat Advisory for Schools to Protect Students Amid Intense Heatwave

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD)Amid soaring temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir, the Department of School Education has issued a heat safety advisory to all schools, urging immediate precautions to protect students from heat-related illnesses.

The advisory notes that children are particularly susceptible to heat as their bodies warm up faster and produce less sweat than adults. It warns that children may not feel thirsty while playing, and staff must proactively ensure they stay hydrated.

Key instructions issued to school heads include:

Encourage regular water intake throughout the day.

Limit outdoor activities, especially during peak afternoon hours.

Ensure shaded rest areas for children and check the temperature of outdoor surfaces and school transport.

Improve classroom ventilation and avoid overcrowding.

Provide special care for younger children, students with chronic conditions like asthma, and those with physical disabilities.

The department emphasised that strict compliance with the advisory is crucial to prevent medical emergencies and ensure students’ well-being during the ongoing heatwave(DD)
