J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau Books Patwari in Disproportionate Assets Case

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD)The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against a revenue official, Mohd Ayoub Khan, Patwari, posted in the Lolab area of Kupwara district, for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The action follows a discreet verification conducted by the ACB upon receiving a complaint that Khan was leading a lavish lifestyle and possessed properties and assets far exceeding his legitimate income. The complaint also alleged ownership of multiple houses, vehicles, agricultural land, and heavy spending on his children’s education, including MBBS admission abroad and nursing education in Amritsar.

During the verification period, it was found that the suspect had:

Purchased land and constructed a double-storey house at Hamdaniya Colony, Bemina Srinagar

Built another double-storey residence in Doniwari Lolab, Kupwara

Acquired a Hyundai Venue car and a two-wheeler

Spent significantly on loan repayments and educational expenses for his children

Took frequent bank loans amounting to ₹75 lakh soon after the complaint surfaced, allegedly to mask illicit wealth and mislead investigators

The ACB stated that Khan’s assets and expenditures were prima facie found to be grossly disproportionate to his known income. His conduct constitutes criminal misconduct under Section 5(1)(e) read with Section 5(2) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, Svt. 2006.

As a result, FIR No. 03/2025 was registered on June 16, 2025, at Police Station Anti-Corruption Bureau, Baramulla. Following the FIR, search warrants were obtained and raids were carried out at multiple locations associated with the accused.

During the searches, investigators seized several incriminating items including receipts for gold purchases, iPhone 15 and 15 Pro, and other documents relevant to the case, all in the presence of magistrates and official witnesses.

Further investigation is currently underway.(DD)
