Srinagar, (DD)In a significant move aimed at balancing urban growth with ecological sustainability, the Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted a high-level committee to conduct a short-term review of the Srinagar Master Plan 2035.

As per the official order, the committee will be chaired by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, with the Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation and the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar as members. The Vice Chairman of Srinagar Development Authority will serve as the Member Secretary.

Additional members of the committee include:

Vice Chairman, J&K Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA)

Chief Town Planner, Town Planning Organization Kashmir

A representative from the Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs (not below the rank of Additional Secretary)

Key Mandates of the Committee:

To examine the feasibility of Town Planning Scheme (TPS) areas, and identify specific TPS zones—if any—where preconditions on building permissions may be reconsidered or removed.

To review the directions/orders issued by the Hon’ble High Court of J&K and Ladakh, especially regarding buffer zones around Dal and Nigeen lakes, and to recommend corresponding amendments to the Srinagar Master Plan 2035 in compliance with judicial directives.

This review initiative underscores the government’s intent to ensure that Srinagar’s development is aligned with legal obligations and environmental conservation, particularly in ecologically sensitive areas such as the Dal and Nigeen lakefronts.(DD)
