Crucial J&K Cabinet Meeting Today: Reservation Report, Yatra Security on Agenda

Tourism Revival Strategy Likely to Be Tabled Amid Growing Concerns

Diplomat Correspondent

Srinagar, (DD): A high-stakes Cabinet meeting is set to take place this evening at 6 PM at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, with the long-awaited Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) report on reservations topping the agenda.

Chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the meeting is expected to take key decisions amid mounting public pressure, particularly from general category students opposing the current reservation structure.

The three-member CSC—comprising Ministers Sakina Itoo, Javed Rana, and Satish Sharma—will formally present their recommendations during the session. The report, submitted on June 10 after six months of extensive consultations, outlines proposed changes to the existing reservation policy.

According to official sources, the Cabinet will deliberate on the legal and administrative steps required to implement the recommendations, if approved. “The government is in a delicate position. The decision will be closely watched and could have far-reaching political implications,” a senior official said.

In addition to the reservation issue, the Cabinet is also expected to review preparations for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra. Security has been tightened following a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, prompting a comprehensive review of safety protocols, logistics, and emergency response mechanisms for the pilgrimage.

The meeting will also address measures to boost tourism, a sector seen as vital for economic revival. With the summer season underway, authorities are looking to reassure travelers and stakeholders about safety and infrastructure readiness across major destinations(DD)
