Kashmiri Students Moved to Turkmenistan for Evacuation Amid Middle East Tensions

Srinagar, (DD): In a coordinated evacuation effort amid rising tensions in the Middle East, over 1,500 Indian students, including around 90 from Kashmir studying at Urmia Medical University, are being relocated from Iran to safer zones for evacuation.

The students, who were earlier moved to the city of Qom, were transported this morning to Mashhad, from where they are expected to cross into Turkmenistan for onward evacuation. The journey to Mashhad is expected to take around 12 hours.

Simultaneously, over 100 students who had already crossed into Armenia are now preparing to fly home via Doha. The group will depart from Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, and travel to New Delhi on special IndiGo flights arranged by the Government of India.

To ensure a seamless journey for Kashmiri students, the Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed to the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) that onward tickets from Delhi to Srinagar are also being arranged.

Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of JKSA, stated that the association remains in constant touch with both the students and relevant authorities, ensuring their safe and timely return.

This latest development is part of India’s broader evacuation strategy amid the volatile situation in the region(DD)
