Srinagar, DD, Amid rising temperatures and persistent heatwave conditions, Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Saturday announced that all government and private schools in Kashmir division will observe a 15-day summer vacation starting from June 23.
“The weather has become unbearable for students. In light of the ongoing heatwave, we’ve decided to advance the summer holidays,” Itoo said, adding that the government will reassess the situation once the break ends to decide if an extension is necessary.
She mentioned that the original plan was to schedule summer vacations from July 1 to July 10, but the severe weather prompted the department to begin the break earlier and extend it to 15 days.
Earlier this week, the Education Department had also revised school timings. Schools within Srinagar Municipal limits will now operate from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, while those outside municipal limits will function from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM.(DD)
