Irregularities Confirmed in Recruitment of Firemen and Drivers in J&K Fire & Emergency Services

ACB Registers Case, Says Investigation Underway to Track Money Trail and Identify Culprits

Srinagar,(DD): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has confirmed irregularities in the 2020 recruitment process of Firemen and Fireman Drivers in the Fire and Emergency Services Department, following a formal complaint and subsequent verification.

In an official statement, the ACB said that the verification conducted through Police Station Central ACB J&K established multiple procedural lapses and the wrongful selection of several candidates.

Based on the initial findings, a case under FIR No. 01/2025 was registered on 1st January 2025 at Police Station Central ACB.

The ACB revealed that the investigation is complex and time-consuming, citing the following key reasons:

  1. Identification of wrongfully selected candidates and examination of their banking transactions to trace the flow of money and establish links to the recruitment fraud.
  2. Detection of middlemen or touts involved in facilitating the illegal selections, and analysis of their financial trails to determine how far up the chain the corruption extended.
  3. The scale of the recruitment, which involved approximately 700 candidates, requires a thorough scrutiny of voluminous records to uncover the modus operandi and hold the guilty accountable.

“All these processes are tedious and time-consuming and must be conducted meticulously,” the ACB said. However, it assured that the investigation is progressing with full vigour and the Bureau is committed to delivering justice by exposing all irregularities involved in the recruitment scam.

The Bureau also emphasised its determination to complete the probe at the earliest while maintaining procedural fairness and thoroughness(DD)
