Srinagar, (DD): A heartwarming scene unfolded at a Muharram function in Srinagar when a young boy hugged Education Minister Sakina Itoo and pleaded, “Mam, aur chutti karo na please” — asking for an extension of the ongoing summer holidays amid the ongoing heatwave sweeping across the Kashmir Valley.
The boy’s innocent appeal was caught on camera and quickly spread across social media, striking an emotional chord with students and parents alike who have been enduring sweltering conditions over the past several days.
Addressing the media after the event, Minister Sakina Itoo acknowledged the concerns pouring in from across the Valley. “We’ve been receiving frequent requests from students, parents, and teachers, all expressing discomfort due to the high temperatures,” she said.
She added that the matter is being seriously considered: “Yes, it is extremely hot these days. We’re hopeful for some rain soon. A final decision on the extension of school vacations will be taken tomorrow (Sunday).”
With Kashmir witnessing unusually high day and night temperatures, students and families now await a formal announcement, hoping for a few more days of respite from the classroom heat.(DD)
